India's Partnerships and Security Posture
Reasons behind such widespread partnerships:
With its fast-growing rates,
strategic locations, a widespread network of foreign and diplomatic policies,
and large diversity in its citizen, India has gained friendly partnerships with
several countries in the developing world. The Ministry of External Affairs is
the government agency for the conduct of foreign relations and partnerships.
India’s contribution towards its
partners:
India's Strategic Partnerships are
considered closest with countries like UAE, Russia, Israel, Afghanistan,
France, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the United States. Different platforms on which
India shares a bond with these countries include military operations,
counter-terrorism, and space technology. While Russia is the largest supplier
of military equipment to India in the present times, Israel is all set to
overtake Russia anytime soon in the future. Israel and India have collaborated
in the fields of counter-terrorism and space technology. India's strategic partnerships are
also developed with nations still under development processes such as South
Africa and Mexico. India is also seen as one of the standard-bearers of the
developing world. India's Look East policy helped India gain friendly relations
with Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Currently, it's looking forward to establishing strategic
partnerships with Canada and Argentina.
Threats to Indian security and
solutions:
Being extraordinarily complex and internally diverse, India's Strategic Posture remains predominantly defensive. Its large ground forces remain defensive, and their main focus is to ensure India's security. India remains a largely land-oriented nation, with the greatest attention and money going first to the army and then Airforce because the largest threat to India's Security is from land borders. The Indian navy is largely defensive in India's strategic posture and is gradually developing its capabilities. India wants to play the role of peacekeeper in the Indian Ocean and wants itself to be recognized likewise by the world's superpowers. Over time, a set of policies and strategies have been framed to deal with the complex strategic threats related to internal unity and potentially posed external threats.
