 Role and meaning of think tanks: -

A Think Tank is an institute of experts who perform research on various ideas and suggestions on economic, military, technology, and social issues. Some of the think tanks are government organizations associated with political parties and the military. On the other hand, most of them are non-governmental organizations.

Importance and types: -

  • Delhi policy group is an independent and popular think tank. It was founded in 1994. The role of the DPG think tank is worldwide popular. There are many Think Tanks in Delhi which provide easy and relevant information, but DPG is the most reliable.

  • Thinks tanks are a source of providing strategies to increase public prosperity and develop the welfare of the country in general.  The common think tanks are business affiliated, created by the government a political party or personal think tanks.

  • Think tank uses different criteria like large and diversified strategies which include foundations, business models, contract work. The audience provides a better framework for Think Tanks to initiate policies. It also involves linking formally or informally with various interest groups. 

The international role of think tanks: -

  • The think tanks play a vital role as they have a number of branches & institutions providing their services worldwide. The role of DPG is to strengthen India’s alliance with its neighbouring countries through diplomatic strategies that work towards developing the position of India internationally.

  • Partnership with international organisations help create more inclusive policies and DPG has its base in various other International Relations Think Tanks which is why has to take up many perspectives before recommending any developmental suggestion.

  • India is the second-highest country of think tanks mostly placed in Delhi. Some of the think tanks promote climate and environmental ideas like a center for research and various resource institutes. In Mumbai, many think tanks work on the solution to various social problems. The work done by the think tanks can be improved accordingly by the NKN (the national knowledge network).
