India and China Bilateral Relations are also known as Indo-Chinese relations or Sino- Indian relations. Historically, China and India had peaceful relations for last thousand of years. After the rule of communist party in China, both the nations have sought economic cooperation with each other.

 While frequent border disputes, and economic nationalism are a major point of dispute amongst the two. India and China are two of the popular country with fastest growing economy. Both are the regional powers in Asia.

Extension of economic influence and diplomatic has increased the vitality of their bilateral relationships. India and China both are highly powerful nations of Asia.

India and China Relations

Relation between the two countries have been characterised by border disputes and laid into three military conflicts: -

  • Sino-Indian War of 1962
  • Sino-Indian war of 1967
  • and the 1987 Sino-Indian skirmish

In 2017, India-China clashed at the Doklam plateau along the disputed Sino- Bhutanese border

In 2008, China became India’s biggest trading partner. Accordingly, both the countries have extended their military and strategic relations.

In June 2020, Indian and Chinese soldiers faced each other on the western border known as the Galwan river valley.

Despite increasing strategic and economic ties between the India and China Relations there are lots of hurdles for India. India faces trade imbalance massively in favour of China. Both the countries fail to resolve their border issues.

However, if India and China both the countries address the intrinsic distrust in relations and build a healthy stronger understanding of the other’s international position, then somewhere it may allow for a level of cooperation among the two. If both the nations develop this understanding then there will exist cooperation among the Sino-Indian rivalry.

China’s economic downturn has opened new strategic place for India in Southeast Asia. China and India relations have now entered into an unpredictable situation.
